초록
The transition to a non-contact society caused by the spread of COVID-19 is having a great impact on people's lives, and also on their travel behavior. This study analyzes the changes in travel modes’ ridership due to the spread of COVID-19. Specifically, this study investigated how the spread of COVID-19 affected the ridership of shared bicycles as well as public transportation and personal vehicles. In addition, the impact of COVID-19 was examined by dividing it into weekdays and weekends. The analysis showed that there was a significant change in the ridership of transportation by the diffusion stage of COVID-19. In particular, in the case of public transit(subway, bus), the decrease in usage was found to be very significant compared to other modes as a threat of infections. On the contrary, the usage of a personal vehicle and a shared bicycle changed insignificantly or even increased. Considering the fact that telecommuting was partially implemented due to COVID-19, it can be assumed that individuals who took public transportation switched their modes to car or bicycle. The results of this study could be useful in understanding people’s travel behavior regarding mode choice in the situation of spreading epidemic, such as COVID-19. Also, this study could be used to establish mobility policies that can contribute to reducing the spread of infectious diseases.
