초록

The New-Town project in Seoul is a comprehensive urban regeneration project contrary to the previous type of piecemeal residential redevelopment. One of its main purposes is to improve infrastructures in a regional level, which can not be achieved with the previous scheme of small-area-based redevelopment. However, there ara a few unsettled arguments on unacceptable results caused by the New-Town projects, such as the violation of housing right for the original residents, the rise of housing price, and reducing stock of small housing units. Focusing on these issues, the paper reassesses the effects of New-Town projects based on recently developed empirical research works in order to draw some practical implications for policy making.
