Zikr ("remembrance") is an Islamic spiritual practice, which consists in repeatedly pronouncing a prayer formula containing the glorification of God. Zikr developed mainly as a meditative practice of Sufism. Zikr is often opposed to the Fikr ("thought"). Zikr is an understanding of God both in words and heart or at the same time with the help of words and heart. The Truth of the Zikr is to forget everything except God. A special, secret zikr was considered a means of eternal connection with the truth. The remembrance of the name of God is one of the most obvious ways to worship the Almighty; Meditation in the name of God opened mysticism the spiritual image of God. Zikr is compared with light and life-giving moisture, helping to bloom the human soul. Oral remembrance, multiple repetition of the words of the zikr, is considered the lower, it should serve as the beginning of remembrance in the heart - the ultimate attention to the beloved Lord, which cleanses the heart so that it can reflect in itself a lover.
