초록
This study examines the formative process of discourse politics on the ‘Global Talent’ in South Korea. The formative process of ‘Global Talent’discourse and its articulative process with the neo-liberal globalization discourse were analyzed based on Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis approach. For this purpose, we have traced the South Korean Presidents’ Inaugural Address and New Year’s message from the 14th president of South Korea, Kim Young-sam to the 18th president, Park Geun-Hye. Also editorials and feature articles of eleven major daily newspapers on the global talent between February 1993 and May 2013were examined concurrently. We found that the Korean State’s discourse politics surrounding globalization have disseminated and strengthened the neo-liberal social order in everyday life of Korean people by mediating and articulating the media discourse. Especially,‘self-improvement’ discourse was extended to the ‘Global Talent’discourse and also the ‘Excellence in Education’ discourse with globalization discourse as borderless competition for talent was effectively articulated. It exemplifies that the discourse of ‘Global Talent’is a powerful technology for self-government in line with the neo-liberal globalization based on an autonomous and self-responsible subject in the era of ever-increasing global competition.
