초록
Apoptosis is a natural process of cell suicide mechanism to maintain its homeostasis. However, today’s illnesses are mainly attributed to the cause of aberrant apoptosis where excessive apoptosis leads to neurodegenerative disorders, ischemic heart disease, autoimmune disorders, infectious diseases, etc. A variety of antiapoptotic agents have been shown to interfere with the apoptosis pathway and subsequently rescuing the cells from dying. These agents can be served as potential drug candidates treating or preventing diseases caused by dysregulated apoptosis. Obviously, world-wide big pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies are gearing up to develop antiapoptotic drugs and a couple of products are commercially available.
