초록
Since 2015, Chinese animated films have shown an obvious trend of nationalism. It can be seen as an extension of the historical tradition of the Chinese animation school that started in the late 1950s. The Chinese animation school pursued a nationalistic mode of representation in response to the complexities of international relations in the 1950s, societal transformations, changes in production methods, and the promotion of cultural and artistic ideologies. The creative groups from Shanghai Animation Film Studio aimed to align their work with the societal atmosphere and individual artistic pursuits of the time. They created Chinese nationalistic animations based on diverse cultural heritages to express a new image of the Chinese nation, emphasizing the unity of the Chinese people as participants in the class revolution. Chinese animators conducted various experiments to portray this new national image, with noteworthy research in scenographic space of the films. Through the use of architectural forms and painting styles from traditional Chinese culture, combined with camera work and editing skills, they depicted the image of the Chinese nation as a unified entity. They also emphasized gaps and contradictions in hierarchical systems through editing and utilized Chinese traditional art forms like Beijing opera, Kunqu opera, and Guangdong opera to highlight the national image in terms of sound.
