Measles vaccine effectiveness in elementary school student cohort, 1999-2001, South Korea.

To evaluate measles vaccine effectiveness, we used a cohort of 2824 students who were reandomly selected from 8 elementary schools in Gyonggi province in Sourth Kore. To confirm the measles infection, the follow up survey data from 1999 to 2001, surveillance data and seroloci data against measles with ELISA kit (Behring, Germany) were used. Among the persons who had the seropositive against measles in 1999, the vaccine effectiveness was 94% or over (95% CI: 66.6-99.3). This result gives evidence that we need to contimue the measles vaccination for elimination of the measles, even though the measles epidemic occurred in vaccination group.
