DEVELOPMENT OF DEFORMABLE COMPUTATIONAL MODEL FOR KOREAN ADULT MALE BASED ON POLYGON AND NURBS SURFACES
초록
Purpose: The purpose of the present study is to develop a deformable computational model for a Korean adult male by using polygon and NURBS surfaces. Methods and Materials: A high quality Korean adult male voxel model, called HDRK-Man, was converted to a polygon surface model and then, for some major organs, converted to a NURBS surface model with 3DDOCTORTM and Rhinoceros. The polygon model of the body surface (skin) was deformed in the back and hip for some correction and finally converted back to a voxel model for Monte Carlo dose calculations. Results: A series of conversions from a voxel model to a surface model and then back to a voxel model were very successful, with volume changes less than a few percent. The result of dose calculations showed that the correction of back and hip does not change the calculated effective dose significantly. The maximum difference was found in the postero-anterior (PA) irradiation geometry, being less than 7% for the photon energies greater than 0.03 MeV. Conclusions: A deformable computational model for Korean adult male was developed based on polygon and NURBS surfaces. The developed model is very realistic and deformable, and can be used as a base model for 4-D simulations of organ deformation and movement during radiation treatment.
