북한이탈청소년의 진로결정과정에 관한 근거이론 연구: 문화자본을 중심으로

This study attempts to analyze the relationship between cultural capital and the process of career decision-making of North Korean defectors. For this purpose, 20 North Korean adolescent defectors were interviewed in-depth to collect data about their cultural capital and career decision-making processes. By analyzing the data using grounded theory, we found that the strategy for cultural capital, chosen by North Korean defectors to decide on career paths, was appeared as 'excluding cultural capital', 'utilizing cultural capital', and 'raising cultural capital'. In addition, the types of career-setting processes that result from the strategy are categorized in five distinct types: 'continuing type', 'discovery type', 'compromising type', 'explorative type', and 'confusion type'. The research participants who maintained the same career goals as in the past or newly decided their career paths in South Korea, were actively striving for achievement. As a matter of fact, some of them focused on career exploration and improvement. On the other hand, research participants who were in a state of confusion due to decisions to not receive career-related information and lack of proper mentors, were expected to have difficulty finding alternatives. Throughout the course of the research, it was confirmed that there was a significant relationship between cultural capitals of North Korean defectors and career-setting process, especially cultural capital related to intellectual area and family customs. However, in order to achieve career goals and acquire job-related information to build required skill, the cultural capital acquired in the past is limited and requires a continuous update.
