An analysis of Chu Yo-han’s poetry in Changjo

초록

The purpose of this study is to clarify the various aspects of Chu Yo-han’s poetry in Changjo. His works show dualistic tendency on traditional and modern trends. In other words, Chu Yo-han tried to establish modernity of poetry, and then reconstruct Ballad and a Korean verse, Sijo. His two actions are Contradictory. But it’s not due in the transformation of the Literature values. It is the result of his own discourse. The Group in Changjo sought to produce pure literature in the first place and they argued that the expression of self. But inside there was a sense of confrontation against Enlightenment Literature and Intellectuals of the 1910s, Choi-Namsun, Lee-Gwangsoo. Since than he changed the literary claims and he wanted Korean literature to draw up the position of world literature through Ballad and a Korean verse, sijo with Chosun’s emotions. Unfortunately, such a declaration through the literary discourse got rid of an excellent and variety characteristics of literary. The poems written by him in Changjo are more varied and better than those. Those poems have a variety of formats and a variety of poetic self. His poetry represented a healthy life, as well as the fear of unknown in the world. In addition, it represented the poetic self with the emotion of conflict and division. Especially his poems by published in edition of 1~5 expressed the negative emotions against colonial modernity. Nevertheless Persistence of traditional aesthetics has brought his potry back. Failed to harmonize inner self and social self, Chu Yo-han was fascinated by the desire of power.
