영미 아동문학 코퍼스 자료를 활용한 데이터 추론학습이 초등학생들의 영어 문법능력에 끼치는 영향

초록

The current study aimed to examine the effect of data-driven learning utilizing a children literature corpus on the elementary students’ grammatical competence and to investigate their perceptions about and attitudes towards its use in their grammar learning. The texts of ten best-selling children literature book series were complied to build a children literature corpus and the examples of the targeted grammatical structures were extracted from it. During the 12 sessions, a data-driven learning utilizing the corpus was practiced in the experimental group, whereas a teacher-led instruction with an explicit explanation about the targeted grammar was given in the control group, and it was found that the performance of the students in the experimental group on the grammar test was significantly higher than that of the students in the control group regardless of their English proficiency in each group. Also, the results of the survey and the interview revealed that the students believed a data-driven learning utilizing a corpus was conducive to their grammar learning and writing, and also indicated that their participation in the class increased, whereas their stress and tension caused by a new learning environment decreased as the session went by.
