A Study on the Design Characteristics of Outdoor Community Facility in Rental Apartment Complex

초록

The outdoor community facility designed for an apartment complex is an important factor that represents the characteristic of an individual apartment complex, and is a space for recreation, rest, or exercise. However, in case of the rental apartment complex for the low income group, as it does not have space sufficient for the number of its households due to economic strain, the outdoor community facility that can replaces insufficient private space is significant. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the design characteristics of the outdoor community facility of the rental apartment complex, identify its planning methodology and components, and provide basic data for planning for future community facilities. This study examined twelve rental apartment complexes located in Seoul and Kyeonggi areas, while categorizing their outdoor facilities into playground, exercise, rest, and green facilities. The study results are as follows. The outdoor community facilities did not characterize the identity of each apartment complex or the regional characteristics; they were designed in similar styles. Among playground facilities, exercise facilities, rest facilities, and green facilities in the complexes, playground facilities were found to relatively have diversity in size and number. And the outdoor community facilities were found to be designed as compound spaces with multiple functions of playing, exercising, resting, walking, and so on linking with other facilities, rather than with a single function. However, linked facilities were found to be in as a few types as benches, promenades, exercise instruments, and so on.
