MCAD Education in Hanyang University

Compare with the theoretical aspect of the CAD, the application aspects of its technologies have been far advanced for last decade and available as a form of very sophisticated commercial systems by the solution providers. As a result manufacturing industries utilize a variety of user-friendly and powerful modeling techniques to improve their design. Also they are expanding the usage of CAD data to many different applications such as PDM and Digital Manufacturing to cover the entire product life-cycle. Consequently, to cope with the advancement and expansion of CAD applications by the industries, the curriculum of CAD education needs constant reforming to provide relevant background knowledge for students. The talk introduces the CAD education provided by School of Mechanical Engineering of Hanyang University. The school has been offering the CAD education in the form of two subjects since 1993 and about 4,000 undergraduate students have taken the subjects. The majority of the graduates from the school are working as mechanical designers for the major Korean manufacturing companies. Accordingly the education has been focusing on not only the theoretical aspects of the subjects but also the practical applications of them through the laboratory courses using the commercial CAD systems widely used by the Korean manufacturing industries.
