The purpose of this study is to investigate the different perceptions on self-leadership competency between businessmen and college students. To do this, the survey was conducted on 150 businessmen in Korean large enterprise as well as 210 college students. The results of the analysis were as follows: First, businessmen' perceptions on the necessity of motivation competency, goal-setting competency, task performance competency, self-reward competency, and self-management competency in all the self-leadership competency were significantly higher than college students' perceptions. Second, businessmen' perceptions on the current level of goal-setting competency, task performance competency, self-reward competency, and self-management competency were significantly higher than college students' perceptions. And college students' perceptions on motivation competency were significantly higher than businessmen'. Third, the level of educational needs desired by both businessmen and college students descended from motivation competency. The perception gap of self-leadership competency indicates that current college curriculums should be improved and new courses should be designed to meet the requirements of corporations.
