한국 공익재단의 사회적 구성: 역사적 발전과정을 중심으로

초록

A unique model of public foundations has developed according to the specific policy framework that reflects diverse national culture and political-economic context. Ultimately, the appearance and perception of foundations are shaped by how and to what extent they are embedded in the social relations and the policies they reflect. This study seeks to reconfigure the theoretical background of public foundations from the perspective of economic sociology. By incorporating an analytical framework called the ‘social construction’ of foundations, it analyzes the processes of their construction and embeddedness. Based on this, this study focuses on the Korean public foundations in analyzing their historical developmental processes according to different phases. The results indicate that, in Korea,corporate businessmen and the rich have set up foundations in response to social criticisms, which can be interpreted as their attempts to use the foundations as a solution to the problems surrounding the concentration of excessive wealth.
