성인학습자들의 스피치교육 경험 분석: 전환학습 이론을 중심으로

초록

The purpose of this study is to use transformative learning theory as a framework to interpret the gradual change process as educational experience in adult learners participating in speech education as continuing education to understand the experience of adult learners as a whole. The data collection took place from January 2018 to May 2019, and 12 adult learners of various age groups who were educated at the A-Speech Institute were selected as study participants and conducted in-depth interviews. First, the study found that adult learners who received speech education became interested in speech education through various experiences in life, but most started learning because of negative experiences. Intensity of these experiences vary between participants in the study but for some the experience proved to be traumatic. Second, adult learners were experiencing both internal and external changes through critical reflection and rational discourse in the course of speech education. Third, adult learners recognized new opportunities of practicing speech as a challenge and tried to apply speech techniques steadily after completing speech education. Adult learners then felt the need to experience various opportunities to improve their speech skills. Based on these results, we presented the implications and conclusions regarding speech education for adult learners.
