식민지 조선의 무진업 연구

A Study on the Mujin Business of Colonial Korea

초록

This study analyzes the introduction and trends of the Mujin business(無盡業) in colonial Korea. Until now, the field of economic history has mainly focused on general banks and special banks. However, in Korea, there were many lower-class people who could not use modern banks. There is a need to study how these people living in the blind spots of the financial system obtained money and what the conditions for obtaining it were. Moreover, in colonial Korea, the Mujin business started as a financial institution for mutual assistance and raising living expenses but developed into a financial company in the 1920s, taking on the role of raising business funds and capital. The subscribers of the Mujin business were Japanese residents in Korea, and their occupations were mainly small and medium-sized merchants, salaried workers, and industrial workers. Furthermore, the Mujin business continued to grow until the liberation and served as a financial institution used by the lower class until the 1960s.
