對중국 FDI의 지역선택요인 분석－정책 및 지경학적 요인을 중심으로－

초록

This paper analyzes the determinants of district selection of FDI in China usingthe panel data on 31 Chinese provinces from 1997 to 2011. In particular, our empiricalanalysis examines strategic and geo-economic factors which make difference of FDIamong Chinese districts, by including distance from major port and tax benefit asexplanatory variables. In addition, using difference in difference model, we analyzehow the FDI has been affected by the Western Development Project on which Chinesegovernment has made emphasis recently. The result of estimation shows the amountof FDI is smaller as the distance from major port gets longer. This means that transportationcost is very important factor in FDI decision because foreign companies usually runthe processing trade which needs large investment in manufacturing industry. Estimationresult also shows that tax benefits of Special Economic Zones increase the amountof FDI. Moreover, as difference in differences model estimation shows, increasingFDI growth in western districts from 2006 can be evaluated that Chinese government'sWestern Development policy gives positive effects on FDI inflow.
