This study aimed to experimentally investigate the operational performance and energy efficiency of a vacuum-based membrane dehumidification and evaporative cooling assisted dedicated outdoor air system (VMD-IEC assisted DOAS) under various climatic conditions. A prototype of VMD-IEC-assisted DOAS was developed and fabricated based on prior research related to the vacuum-based membrane dehumidifier. Furthermore, the operational modes for the proposed DOAS were determined according to ambient conditions, and the cooling performance and energy efficiency of the proposed system for each operational mode were empirically evaluated. The thermal characteristics of air, including temperature and humidity, are explained for each operational mode based on the collected data. The key results indicate that the proposed DOAS demonstrated a cooling capability of 1.75 kW in cooling and dehumidification mode, and 0.51 kW in dehumidification mode alone. Furthermore, the part-load operation may be managed via the VMD by regulating the number of active vacuum pumps, hence mitigating the reduction in energy efficiency of the proposed DOAS during part-load conditions.
