The Differences in Perfectionistic Self-Presentation and Shame in University Students by Parents' Perfectionistic Self-Presentation and Communication

초록

The purpose of this study is understanding how university students' perfectionistic self-presentation and shame differ based on group clustering by parents' perfectionistic self-presentation and dysfunctional communication patterns. Questionnaire surveys targeting 323 university students attending a university in Seoul, or Gyeonggi Province, or Daegu were conducted to collect data and a total of 316 surveys, excluding 7 surveys, were analyzed. For statistical analysis of the data, clustering analysis was conducted. The following are the main results of this study. Three groups appeared according to parents' perfectionistic self-presentation and respective characteristics of dysfunctional communication patterns. Also, there were significant differences in children's perfectionistic self-presentation and shame of respective groups. This study attempted exploration of coexisting variables after focusing on the complex and interactive aspect of perfectionistic self-presentation and it is beneficial in objectively understanding children's perfectionistic tendencies since it identified the effects of parents' character and nurturing characteristics on individuals. Also, this study can become the basic data for setting intervention and goals in counseling based on the information regarding characteristics of respective groups.
