An Ultra-Compact Embedded Slot Antenna for Full Wi-Fi 6/6E/7 Coverage in Mobile Devices

In this paper, we present a compact slot-based antenna designed for dual-band Wi-Fi 6/6E/7 applications. The proposed antenna employs multimode excitation through dual capacitor loading and a slot resonator to achieve wideband coverage and stable radiation characteristics while maintaining a simple and planar structure without the need for complex geometries or external matching circuits. Unlike prior studies that primarily focused on structural modifications, we systematically analyzed the multimode coupling mechanism between the feed structure and radiating slot. By mapping the excitation and coupling of low- and high-order modes, the proposed design provides a theoretical framework that explains how multiple resonant paths jointly realize full Wi-Fi 6/6E/7 coverage. The proposed antenna achieves −10 dB impedance bandwidths of 280 MHz in the lower band (2.26–2.54 GHz) and 2840 MHz in the upper band (5.12–7.96 GHz), fully covering the Wi-Fi 6/6E/7 spectrum. The measured average total efficiencies are approximately 57% in the lower band and 60% in the higher band, with nearly omnidirectional radiation patterns across the operating frequencies. These results demonstrate that the proposed design is well suited for integration into compact mobile and Internet-of-Things platforms requiring wideband Wi-Fi 6E/7 connectivity.
