The Concepts, Strategies and Application of STEAM Education in South Korea

In 2010, the Ministry of Science and Technology has commissioned to our center to develop the science education programs that will make Korea the world's most prominent scientific education system in order to become a world-leading science and technology powerhouse in the future. Our center suggested the new paradigm for science education so called STEAM education. From 2011, Korea's science education has officially been reformed into STEAM education. This new STEAM education is aimed at fostering strategic and global talents based on convergence thinking abilities. STEAM education emphasizes the linkage among STEAM fields, integrated and convergence thinking, and just in time education. It also emphasized the development and active use of creative teaching and learning tools to maximize the STEAM education. This STEAM education is applied as regular classes, after-school classes and a form of company science education donation activities.
