프로젝트 수행단계별로 본 리더십 유형의 영향: 국가 R&D 프로젝트를 중심으로

The investment in national R&D projects has been increasing steadily in Korea as well as in other countries. Although there are many important factors for the success of the R&D projects, the leadership capability of the participating researcher cannot be overlooked. While the management system for the national R&D projects receives much attention, it is often overlooked that there must be a good leadership to integrate the effort of the research team and to achieve the goals of the R&D projects. This paper reviews the available leadership types and their strengths and weaknesses, and tries to find out whether there are appropriate leadership types for each stages of the national R&D projects. Survey questionnaire was used, data were collected from the participants of the national R&D projects, and analyzed to find out the relationship between the leadership types and the stages of the national R&D project. The results show that certain types of leadership are preferred depending on the progress and the stages of the projects. Also, it is found that several types of leadership types may be required even within one project depending on the stage of the project progress. Thus, it will improve the project performance if research team leaders can exercise and use different types of leadership.
