정치적 동반자로서 이황과 기대승
초록
Yi Hwang(T′oegye) and Ki Taesǔng(Kobong) had vigorous debates over the issue of four beginings(四端) and seven emotions(七情) for many years. In spite of their theoretical conflicts on the issue, however, they maintained a very friendly relationship each other until T′oegye died. They shared academic and practical purposes such as perfect understanding and practice of Chu Hsi′s thoughts. As one of junior newcomers or the so-called young Saryu(士類) Kobong was in conflict with the maternal relatives of the King or senior officials. In this period Kobong consulted T′oegye about how he should live as a scholar and a bureaucrat. They also had discussions about political issues such as the enshrinement of King Injong’s ancestral tablet at the Munso-jeon(文昭殿). T′oegye felt a sense of intimacy with Kobong enough to call him our friend. Their consciousness of a kind as Sarim(士林) was based on their recognition of the political situation of the day. They recognized that ‘we’(Sarim group) and ‘people watching us’(the group of the maternal relatives of the King) are inevitably opposed to each other in the late period of King Myeonjong. After King Seonjo came to the throne, both of them insisted on clearing away the legacy of the old days, but didn’t agree to remove the ‘Wisa’(衛社) Meritorious Retainer titles. In a word, T′oegye and Kobong were life companions sharing his wisdom about life and political friends sharing opinions on current issues to each other.
