초록
In response to the rapid changes of the contemporary era, Korea’s newly revised 2022 National Curriculum emphasizes achievement standards aligned with current societal demands and introduces new systems such as the high school credit system. However, despite these timely reforms, educational assessment practices still predominantly rely on traditional cognitive evaluation methods. In light of this issue, a growing number of schools have recently begun implementing the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which adopts a developmental assessment perspective. As a globally recognized curriculum, the IB program emphasizes student-led discussions and autonomous learning activities that draw out individual potential. Particularly in a context of declining student populations, the IB approach is increasingly recognized as a means to support education tailored to diverse learner characteristics. Research related to this trend is gaining attention both domestically and internationally. IB education, with its focus on creative thinking and expression, holds significant potential for integration with artistic subjects such as art and design. Nevertheless, compared to other subject areas, research on IB education within the field of art and design remains limited. A keyword search using the RISS database revealed only four relevant studies in Korea—three related to art and one to design—indicating a clear research gap. This study highlights the need for more active exploration of IB education in conjunction with art and design education and proposes future research directions for implementing IB principles in school art curricula.
