Why Enjoy Taditional Costume Experience at a Cultural Heritage? - The Case of Gyeongbokgung Palace, Seoul

The purpose of this artide is to explore interrelatedness of cultural heritage tourists' characteristics, motivation and self-representation with the perception of heritage authenticity. An exploratory study was undertaken in Gyeongbokgung in Korea as an appropriate site, and four experiential motivations have been found with the implementation of a grounded theory approach: online self-representation, unforgettable excursion, memory capture, and authentic experience at a cultural heritage. In summary, this paper proves that visitors are interested in an emerging phenomenon embedded in their own tradition and culture. This exploratory study aims to provide insight into the new consumption style of a cultural heritage visitors wearing traditional clothes. Therefore, its discovery-oriented nature does not guarantee generalisability.
