The purpose of this study is to explore the merit of East Asian imagery and to explore the possibility and meaning of the mermaid narrative in the cultural contents of East Asia by analyzing the images of East Asian mermaid distinguished from Western. First, I looked at East Asian mermaid prototypes and oral narratives. In Korea, the Chinese mermaid narrator originally came in and was actively passed on, but it appeared to be transformed in various places. In China and Japan, mermaid narratives based on Taoist imagination are seen everywhere. This shape has features that are different from those of Western mermaids. First, a mermaid has a face similar to a person and has a scaly, white skin. Second, the mermaid's tears become pearls. Third, a mermaid squeezes silk at any time. She goes out of the water and sells silk while staying in the accent. Fourth, mermaids are intimate or friendly relations with humans. Fifth, the Oriental Mermaid is not a mutation, but a normal being, such as a human being. Sixth, the mermaids live in the sea, mainly in the Yong-sa palace. It is very different from the western mermaids, which had many beings that interfered with and frightened human life, with strong power and hostile relations with humans. Therefore, the mermaid of oriental mermaid can make a good contribution to the cultural contents if the characteristics of images are utilized well. Prior to the formulation of cultural contents strategy, we examined the status of cultural content related to mermaid in the East and the West. Unlike the myths of Western mermaids, which have been widely branded and promoted and attracted the attention of the world, it has not been deeply started to make cultural contents using Oriental Mermaid narrative. Therefore, it is necessary to consider culture contents plan more actively. In this study, firstly, the contents were made using various media, second, contents were made in the music field, and third, contents were made in the local space. In this way, we proposed the work of contentization of oriental myths. It is not simply an attempt to emphasize the difference from Western imagination. The narrative of oriental mythology based on Taoism reflects the ideology of the nation and the ideology of the times. This article will be helpful to look into the consciousness of the contemporaries projected in the mermaid image and to discover and spread East Asian imagination. Until now, materials based on the Taoist narrative have only stayed in the area of ​​specialized literature, religion, and culture, and have not actively shown up on attempts to communicate with neighboring scholars and the world. The narrative images of Taoism have unlimited possibility of combining with fantasy today. So many myths and legendary strange animals coming down to literature and oral tradition will be sources of Eastern imagination. Among them, the cultural contentsization of the mermaid narrative will be very meaningful to introduce the mermaid form of East Asia to the modern and the world.
