Sublimation Movement of a Social Status of Children Prior to 1910s - Publication Strands in Christianity

초록

A general consensus upon a drastic sublimation of a social status of children in Korea has focused on Bang Jeong-hwan and his engaged movements such as Cheondogyo-Sonyeonhoe around 1920s. Against the perspective, this article attunes to publication stands in christianity prior to 1910s, which had devoted to promote a social status of children; for example, from 1900s to an earlier period of 1910 had news papers Geuriseudosinmun, journal Gadyeongjapji, and books such as Amogwonmyeon, Taemowisaeng, Yeongtwiyangyungnon become to be published. All these editions did not only pay much attention to a prenatal education, but proposed the same worth of children regardless sex conducive to an indiscriminate opportunity for education to male and female as well as to a social proliferation of a scientific knowledge about children’s hygiene and nutrition. As a result, all those trials improved an overall environment for children. Behind this success did a nation-wide proliferation of the editions and their related social activities lie. Therefore, the movement in 1920s related with the status of children was in line with that in 1910s.
