데카르트의 의식 개념

Descartes’ Concept of Consciousness
  • 이현복

초록

In this paper I explained the meaning of Descartes' concept of Consciousness, while at the same time considering the status it occupies in his epistemology. Reviewing several scholars' arguments about the relationship between cogitatio and conscientia/esse conscious, and making my position on it centered around Descartes' text, I reveal that Descartes’ consciousness is the reflective action of the mind or the inner experience of the mind, and that this is an immediate and intimate cognition of everything found within oneself as well as modi cogitandi. Also, because of consciousness’ immediateness to its objects, it suggests that the cognition of consciousness is in principle error-free and forms the basis of Cartesian epistemology, and that this Cartesian consciousness would have had a significant impact on Spinoza, Locke, and Leibnitz.
