Development and Performance Evaluation of a Pre-treatment Particle Removal Device for Industrial Applications

초록

In this study, a pre-treatment particle removal system was developed to address fine dust issues in urban and industrial environments. The primary components of the particle removal system included 10 mm diameter beads, impaction plates, 18-mesh, or 50-mesh. Additionally, these components were treated with hydrophobic surfaces, and their performance was evaluated. Experiments were conducted to measure the efficiency of NaCl particle removal and pressure drop using the particle removal system, where NaCl particles were injected into a wind tunnel, and water was sprayed simultaneously via a nozzle. Water spraying improved the particle removal efficiency by approximately 20% compared to cases without water spraying. When impaction plates were used alongside beads, the removal efficiency further increased by approximately 10%, enhancing filtration performance by improving the quality factor (QF). Components treated with hydrophobic surfaces showed limited effects, as both the pressure drop and particle removal efficiency were reduced. However, the highest particle removal efficiency and QF were observed when 10 layers of 18-mesh were used. These findings suggest that the mesh size, the number of mesh layers, and hydrophobic surface treatment are critical factors influencing the overall efficiency of the particle removal system.
