기술순환주기(TCT)와 기술수명의 관계에 대한 연구 - 한국의 국가연구개발과제 산출 특허를 중심으로 -

초록
This study aims to empirically reveal the relationship between the technology cycle time and the technology lifespan. Researchers used the technology cycle time, which is calculated from the citation information of patents, as a proxy for the technology lifespan. Still, the empirical evidence to support this interpretation has been short. By examining the relationship between the discontinuation rate of patent utilization and the technology cycle time in the unit of the technology group, this study checks the validity of using the technology cycle time as a proxy for the technology lifespan. To this end, we newly constructed a dataset comprising the patents filed in 2012-2016 by companies with support from the national R&D projects having additional information such as the utilization status of registered patents with valid rights as of 2018. As a result of the analysis, this study found that the longer the technology cycle time was, the lower the discontinuation rate was(or, the longer the period of patent utilization was). This study concludes that the technology cycle time correlates with the technology lifespan.
