Increased airway repsonsiveness related to duration of asthma in children

The differences between these respiratory viruses in the pathogenesis of wheezing in young children have not been clearly defined. The aim of this study is to assess the contributions of RSV versus influenza A virus in pathogenesis in upper airway inflammation in wheezy young children. In conclusion, asthma enhanced IL-11 production in RSV infection rather than influenza A virus infection in early childhood. There was a trend toward for greater IL-6 production in RSV infection compared with influenza A virus infection.
