Immunological tests: Essential and supportive tools in the fight against COVID-19

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread globally since December 2019 and has generated distinctive spikes in death counts. To effectively control the viral spread, decision-makers and public health experts have advocated a number ofㅜa strategies (e.g., testing, tracing, and full vaccination). For all those damage control measures, diagnosis is the first and critical step that enables subsequent countermeasures against COVID-19. In diagnostic research, molecular and immunological tests (immunoassays) are generally regarded as the two major options. This review focuses on recent advances in in vitro immunoassays for COVID-19 diagnosisnsive view of the ba with a comprehensive discussion on the basic strategies available to establish advanced immunological detection systems for COVID-19. This review is thus expected to help develop upscaled point-of-care diagnostic systems for efficient screening of COVID-19 and for early seroprevalence surveys toward possible future COVID-19 outbreaks.
