The Relationship between the Structural Evolution of Inventor Networks and the Performance of Innovative Companies: Focusing on the Case of Dyson

초록

This study analyzes the paradoxical relationship between Dyson's sustained revenue growth and the decrease in the number of inventors after 2010. While technology-intensive companies typically show a strong correlation between growth and innovation, with inventors serving as the core source of innovation, Dyson presents a counterintuitive case. Through network analysis of Dyson's patent data, this research aims to identify factors that enabled continued revenue growth despite the reduction in inventor numbers. The analysis reveals that key inventors, particularly James Dyson and Peter David Gammack, played prominent roles in the innovation network. The enhanced collaboration centered around these core inventors and focused research and development in specific technological domains were identified as the main factors contributing to Dyson's sustained revenue growth. This study provides valuable insights for innovation management and human resource strategies in technology-based companies.
