로컬 문화산업에 투영되는 지역의 정치경제학: 역사 도시 수원과 전주의 사례를 중심으로

Korean society recently is experiencing a considerable issue of regional imbalance. The local cultural industry is emerging as an alternative in this situation. However, the cultural industry faces another issue that only economic results can be pursued, if it is merely regarded as an ‘industry’. South Korea has carried out developmental plans centered on the central government in the process of regional development. Therefore, the local cultural industry in Korea has been greatly influenced by national politics. In this article, we examined the influence of political and economic factors on the practice and consequence of local cultural industries, by focusing on the cases of Suwon and Jeonju. Specifically, we tried to explore the cultural industry of two cities, Suwon and Jeonju and examine the trajectories of their development or changes. This was to discuss how the political context and economic factors involved in the cultural industry affect specific local space and cultural policies. Especially, this issue was analyzed based on a series of concepts and perspective by David Harvey. For instance, Harvey has viewed cities as the accumulation of diverse factors, such as politics, history, culture, and economy. The objects of analysis include local research reports, presidential inauguration speeches, and press releases related to the cultural industry. These materials provide useful insight into how culture and cultural industry in the city is discussed and formed in a context specific way.
