Seismic Capacity Evaluation of Two-Story R/C Frames Retrofitted by NISF Internal Connection Method Using Pseudo-dynamic Testing

초록

A Novel Internal Steel Frame (NISF) method was suggested for seismic retrofitting of existing reinforced concrete (R/C) buildings. The developed system is categorized as a strength increasing technique that can easily enhance the horizontal strength of R/C structures. Two-story R/C frame specimens were designed based on an Korean R/C frame without seismic details. A control specimen and a specimen strengthened with the NISF internal system were used. Pseudo-dynamic testing was carried out to estimate the effects of seismic retrofitting in terms of the ultimate response strength, response displacement, and degree of earthquake damage compared with the control specimen. Test results revealed that the proposed NISF retrofitting technique, internally connected to the existing R/C frame, adequately enhanced the lateral-resistant force, resulting in decreased earthquake response displacement of R/C frames under high level of earthquake ground motions.
