Optimum Receiver Geometry for Moment Tensor Inversion of Microseismic Data

초록

We have developed a full-waveform moment tensor inversion module for microseismic data. To investigate the effect of the receiver geometry on the stability of the moment tensor inversion, we analyzed the condition number of GTG matrix. Although the surface monitoring with large receiver coverage has the lowest condition number, we still need to consider the attenuation in high frequency components due to the absorption and low S/N ratio because of long source-receiver distance in practice. In borehole monitoring, the condition number increases with increasing source-receiver distance. In the case of the deviated well, the stable computation of the inversion is possible even with the microseismic data from a single well. Moreover, the inversion is stable even with long source-receiver distance when using surface and borehole receivers together. However, the further research is needed because surface and borehole monitoring data may have different frequency contents each other.
