가정의학과 전공의 수련과정 중 연구에 대한 전공의의 인식도

초록

Background: Scholarly research is emerging as an important facet of family medicine. Research activity during family medicine residency has been regarded as an important component for both academic purposes and residents’ training itself. This study was conducted to investigate how residents perceive research and what factors determine residents’ research activity. Methods: Among 298 candidates for the Korean Academy of Family Medicine (KAFM) specialty examination, 123 residents (41% of response rate) participated in this study from January through April in 2005. They completed questionnaires composed of 23 items via mail, telephone, or on site. Results: Of 123 respondents, 85.4% residents felt their research experience was desirable, and 52.9% showed interest in pursuing research during residency. Only 38.5% residents participated in research actively. Attendance at graduate school (odds ratio [OR], 2.76; 95 % confidence interval [CI], 1.03 to 7.40) was the only factor associated with residents’ interest in pursuing research. Attendance at graduate school (OR, 21.28; 95% CI, 6.12 to 73.94), encouragement from preceptors (OR, 2.14; 95% CI, 1.30 to 3.54), and establishment of research time over 1 month (OR, 6.02; 95% CI, 1.83 to 19.80) were three factors associated with the degree of participation in research. Residents highly wanted an opportunity to learn about 'research design and data analysis’. Conclusion: Residents perceived a research during residency training as an important and essential component for their career development. Time allocation, preceptor’s encouragement, and education for research related activity need to be provided to residents for high quality research output during family medicine residency training
