This study aimed to elucidate the staged structure of innovation resistance among senior tourists toward digital tourism technologies in South Korea's super-aged society. Grounded in innovation resistance theory, this research analyzed the transition process from passive resistance through functional and psychological barriers to active resistance. A web-based survey targeting seniors aged 65 and older measured passive resistance, barrier perceptions, and active resistance toward online travel platforms. Structural equation modeling revealed that passive resistance significantly influenced both functional and psychological barriers. This indicates that seniors' general tendency to defer technology adoption—formed prior to any evaluation of a specific technology—functions as the starting point of barrier perception. Among psychological barriers, tradition and image barriers strongly affected active resistance, whereas functional barriers (usage and risk) were not statistically significant. These findings suggest that seniors' tourism resistance is more strongly determined by emotional and psychological factors than technological complexity. Theoretically, this study deepens understanding of how innovation resistance forms among senior tourists by empirically demonstrating, the staged process in which passive resistance functions as an antecedent of barriers and subsequently transitions to active resistance through psychological barriers. Practically, it suggests prioritizing psychological preparation through peer experience sharing and positive framing before technological improvements. This study establishes foundations for enhancing digital inclusivity in tourism and contributes to creating an inclusive tourism environment embracing the senior generation.
