세대 간 우울증상의 네트워크 구조 비교– 베이비부머 세대, X 세대, MZ 세대의 비교

초록

Objectives This study compared the network structures of depressive symptoms across three generations (baby boomers, generation X, and MZ generation) in South Korea to identify the key symptoms and interconnection patterns unique to each group. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted with 1000 adults aged 22–69 years, categorized into baby boomers (n=224, aged 58–69 years), generation X (n=309, aged 43–57 years), and MZ generation (n=467, aged 22–42 years). The participants completed the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). Network analysis was performed using Gaussian graphical models and graphical Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (glasso) algorithms to explore symptom interactions and centrality. Results Significant differences in depression levels were observed across generations, with the MZ generation showing the highest CES-D scores (mean [M]=21.16), followed by generation X (M=16.71) and baby boomers (M=14.47). Network analysis revealed common and generation-specific characteristics in depressive symptom structures. Across all groups, mood-related symptoms (CES-D3, mood-felt blue) showed the highest centrality, and a strong edge was observed between unhappy (CES-D12) and not fun (CES-D16). Generation-specific central symptoms included hard (CES-D7) for baby boomers, mood-“felt blue” and depression-“felt depressed” (CES-D3 and CES-D6) for generation X, and not fun (CES-D16) for the MZ generation. Conclusion The study highlights the importance of generation-specific approaches in understanding depression. The variations in depressive symptom networks across generations suggest that intervention strategies should be tailored to the unique social contexts and psychological characteristics of each generation
