The Power of Peers: How Social Support among Co-trainees Facilitates Reemployment and Work-Family Enrichment of Career-Interrupted Women

초록

This study examines how perceived social support for job search activities from peer trainees influences employment outcomes and work–family enrich ment among career-interrupted women. Drawing on Conservation of Resources Theory and Social Cognitive Theory, it investigates the mediating roles of job search self-efficacy and job search intensity in explaining how peer support facilitates labor market reentry and positive work–family experiences. Longitudinal data were collected across four waves over a ten-month period from 130 career-interrupted women participating in 22 vocational training programs at seven Saeil Centers(Career Development Center for Women) in Korea. Analyses revealed that perceived social support for job search activities from peer trainees had significant positive indirect effects on both employment status and work–family enrichment through job search self-efficacy and job search intensity. In particular, job search self-efficacy fully mediated the relation ship between peer support and employment status and partially mediated the relationship between peer support and work–family enrichment. The findings suggest that vocational training programs should foster emotional and in strumental support networks among trainees in addition to providing occupa tional skills. This study highlights peer-based social support and self-efficacy as critical psychosocial resources for successful reemployment and work–family enrichment, extending the job search literature and offering practical im plications for career-interrupted women’s workforce reentry.
